What if you woke up one morning and every dollar you’d saved for years was just gone, and then you found out who took it?
Not a stranger. Not a scammer. Someone who had a key to your home.
Today’s story is about Trinity, 30 years old, who spent years saving for her first house and came home one Friday to find it all wiped out by the last person she ever expected.
So I need to start from Friday morning because that’s when everything just fell apart.
I woke up at like six-something, earlier than usual. My phone was going off. Not a call, just buzzing over and over.
Text notifications.
I grabbed it half asleep, squinting at the screen.
And then I was wide awake.
My bank.
Multiple alerts.
Transactions.
Withdrawals.
$30,000 gone.
I just sat there on my bed holding the phone with both hands.
Read it again.
And again.
$30,000.
My $30,000.
The money I had been putting away for years. Literally years. To buy my own house.
I already had a realtor. I’d looked at three properties the month before. I had a favorite one, a little house with a good yard.
I was so close.
I ran to the closet.
Actually ran.
Knocked my water bottle off the nightstand.
I kept my card in a specific spot. Same spot always. A little dish on the second shelf.
It wasn’t there.
I moved stuff around.
Checked the shelf below.
Nothing.
The card was gone.
“Okay. Okay.”
I called Melissa.
She works at the bank where I have that account. We’ve known each other since college.
I was probably not making a lot of sense on the phone because she kept saying:
“Slow down. Slow down.”
I told her what happened.
She went quiet for a second and then said:
“Block it right now through the app. Right now while we’re talking. Then come here.”
I blocked it, grabbed whatever clothes were on the chair, didn’t even brush my hair, and drove straight there.
Hey everyone, welcome back. I’m Sarah, and this is Sarah Tesh.
You know that reaction? Drop everything. Don’t even think. Just go.
That’s what happens when the threat comes from inside the family.
It hits differently.
Melissa took me to this back room, sat me down, brought up something on her computer, and turned the monitor toward me.
