This was supposed to be our safe space.
And now my mother wanted to take it away.
But what she didn’t know was that two weeks earlier, I had already protected it.
I had gone to my lawyer, Mr. David Reynolds, and asked him to create an irrevocable trust for Lily. The house was transferred into that trust with me as the trustee until Lily turned 18.
Even if something happened to me, my mother, father, or sister could never claim ownership. The trust was airtight, legally bulletproof.
I had done it quietly because I had already started sensing that my family was planning something. After Daniel’s death, they had become unusually interested in my life and my finances.
I didn’t trust them anymore.
The next morning, I woke up early and prepared for what was coming. I fed Lily, bathed her, and made sure she was comfortable.
Then, I sat down and waited.
At exactly 10:00 a.m., the doorbell rang.
I opened the door.
My mother stood there with my sister Isabella, her husband, and two large suitcases.
My mother had a triumphant look on her face.
“We’re here,” she said, pushing past me into the house without waiting for an invitation. “Start packing your things, Sophia. We’ll take the master bedroom. Isabella and her family will take the guest rooms upstairs.”
Isabella smiled as she walked in, looking around like she already owned the place.
