My mother shouted, “Sophia, open the door. We’re moving in today. This is our house, too.”
I didn’t open the door.
I called the police instead.
When the police arrived, my mother tried to act like the victim.
“Officer, this is family property. My daughter is refusing to let us in. She’s being selfish.”
The senior officer asked me for proof of ownership.
I showed him the property deed and the trust documents.
He read them carefully, then turned to my mother.
“Man, this house is legally in a trust under her daughter’s name. You have no right to enter without her permission. If you don’t leave immediately, I will have to arrest you for trespassing.”
My mother’s face turned red with rage. She started shouting at the officers.
“This is unfair. We’re her family. She owes us.”
The officer remained calm.
“Ma’am, family doesn’t mean you can force your way into someone’s house. Please leave.”
My sister started crying dramatically, saying, “We have nowhere to go now. She’s throwing us on the street.”
But the police didn’t budge.
